Biography
I graduated from Black Hills State University with a degree in Elementary Education and Special Education in the fall of 2000. My first teaching position was at the Watertown Middle School teaching 7th and 8th grade students in a self-contained alternative education classroom. Although I was nervous about taking the position in a "behavior" classroom, I have never regretted my decision and I have been in the same position since 2002. My students from the past eight years are my inspiration for pursuing this degree.
Completing the MSET program was a little easier because of my supportive husband, Troy. Troy and I have been married for nine years. We have three beautiful children: Riley (5), Jerome (2), and Hayden (1). When starting the program I thought it would be tough, but manageable with a two year old. In the summer of 2007, our second child was born. I knew managing a young family and working towards my masters would be tough, but still manageable. The only 15 months later we were blessed with our third child. At this point I knew it would be though, but I didn't know if it would be manageable any longer. However, slow and steady proved to be the best course. I took a semester off and then took one class at at time and make it through. I will be completing my course work in the fall of 2009.
Upon completing my advanced degree my plan is to continue doing what I love, working with students. My intention for getting my MSET degree was to provide my students with opportunities to use, investigate, and create using technology in a meaningful way.
