My Philosophy
In Foundations of Education as a sophomore working toward my degree in elementary education and special education, I was asked to write my philosophy of education. I chuckle to myself when I read it now. My philosophy of teaching and learning has evolved over the years as I gain experience in the classroom, continue my education, and raise my own family.
First and foremost I believe in the importance of building relationships. Relationships need to be built before any meaningful teaching and learning can occur. I want the students in my classroom to feel that this is a safe, caring and nurturing environment. I want my students to have enough trust that they are willing to give their all and to take risks in their own learning.
I believe that teaching problem solving and critical thinking skills are just as important as the content. I believe educators owe it to their students to provide them with the necessary skills to be life long learners. Students need to have access to relevant technology in the classroom. I believe that technology plays a vital role in education. I have a responsibility to my students to provide them with meaningful integration of technology into teaching and learning.
Education is an ongoing process that is always changing. I believe it is important to stay current in the latest trends and evaluate their effectiveness. Teaching is one of the most important jobs. I love my job and I am proud to stay that I am an a teacher.
